PERFECT STORM

Pantone named Emerald Green, the color of the year for 2013, but I say any green will do.  I just painted our den/study "Eclispe" by Sherwin Williams.  It's a rich, olive green similar to the color in this Elle Decor magazine photo.

I love the fact that it blends so well with shades of blue/green, red, orange, black or turquoise.  It just might be the perfect color.  It's stormy and brooding yet calming and classic.  Interesting how what's on the walls can really color your world.

Bird Fever!

This just might be the most adorable lamp I've ever seen.  I can't take the credit because my client found it on her own at Forty Five Ten on McKinney Avenue.

FUN yet REFINED

I'm convinced you really can have it all!  This master bedroom is gorgeous and elegant but guess what?  It's also fun, and this photo shows two of the four reasons why:

*  the pop of turquoise against the otherwise neutral colors
*  the custom Mongolian Lamb pouf

What you don't see here is the wild piece of original art over the fireplace and a darling bird lamp sitting on the mirrored chest.

The space is large enough to carry this off and still look stunning!

DO IT YOURSELF

I ran across this little beauty in the Jonathon Adler store a few months ago and from that day forward I couldn't get it out of my mind.  My client fell in love with it too and we both just knew it was perfect for her bedroom - but the price was a little over the top.   Hmmm, what to do?

Well, we designed our own and it's being custom made as we speak.  We tweaked the shape and gave up the very expensive lucite base but it's going to be equally adorable and I can't wait to post a photo once it's complete.

Mongolian lamb hides are soft, sexy and so RIGHT NOW!

Learning Curves......

I'm all about learning new ideas and creative tricks to make life easier whether in my personal or work environment.  That's why today I'm so excited to share this inventive way to make a comforter look inviting.

Exhibit A - this first photo is of my guest room bed, adorned in a simple European style.  The linens are white, crisply ironed and soft to the touch.  Notice that the comforter is fluffy, puffy and inviting.

VOILA - I've hidden the sleeping pillows under the comforter which keeps them handy yet adds so much to the way the bed looks when made up.

Credit for this cool tip comes from my energetic, beautiful client, LIZA.  All these years of decorating and never had I seen this done before.  I think it's a fabulous idea and I can't thank her enough for letting me in on such a clever secret.  Merci, Liza!

Spheres of Influence

Moving from the seating area in the previous post, to the bed, illustrates how the power of the wallpaper inspired the design process.  The  shimmery, tufted fabric, custom headboard was made by PHELAN'S and the layering effect of the gorgeous bedding is elegant yet tailored.  The graphic designs are somehow simple so the room isn't overwhelmed by any one element.

Two dazzling gold pendants are great for night time reading plus they free up space on the bedside tables.  My client and I even threw her grandmother's mink stole across the bed for a touch of nostalgia.  Once again we've created a room that offers comfort and luxury - and together those are good influences!

Everyday Luxury

The perfect addition to this master bedroom sitting area, these two turquoise velvet chairs are custom from Mitchell Gold and what exquisite comfort they offer.  At the end of the day the two attorneys that reside here must feel very special coming home to what I think is a perfect personal space.

These are the same drapery panels shown close up in a previous post and here you can see how elegant and full bodied they really are.  Everyday luxury is  possible in any home!
